The Green River, running from its headwaters in the Wind River Range of the Rocky Mountains in Bridger Teton National Forest of far north Sublette County, Wyoming and down through Flaming Gorge Reservoir on the Utah - Wyoming border, is a major waterway for Utah. From Flaming Gorge Reservoir it flows east across extreme northeastern Utah into Colorado, through Dinosaur National Monument in northwestern Colorado, back into Utah in the Yampa Plateau west of Vernal, then south to the confluence with the Colorado River in Canyonlands National Park. Major tributaries include the White River, Nine Mile River, Price River and San Rafael River.
